Remembrance Sunday

With thanks to David Harrison for offering the photograph to us - please do not reuse without his permission
This was a particularly poignant Remembrance Sunday, falling exactly 100 years from the end of the First World War. We were honoured to welcome the York Normandy Veterans who fought on the beaches of the Second World War to St Lawrence. Thank you to the St Lawrence's School children who helped us make the 156 First World War lanterns out of the 215 lanterns we placed in the churchyard to commemorate each man commemorated on St Lawrence's two war memorials (and a further man from the parish who died in the Falklands War). You can see a recording of the lantern display and the half muffled bells prior to Choral Evensong here.
