Dedication of St Lawrence’s heating installation and other works

Join us at 11:30am on Saturday 2nd March for Solemn Choral Matins with the belated dedication of and with thanksgiving for the installation of St Lawrence's new heating system and the completion of the most recent phase of refurbishment works. The anthem will be James Macmillan's 'New Song' as we move into a new era at St Lawrence. The service will be followed by light lunch refreshments, to which all are welcome. There will be a Fair Trade coffee morning in the Hall prior to the service, from 10am, so you can arrive early for some coffee, cake, and conversation if you wish. We look forward to seeing you - please do bring friends.

York Residents’ Festival

St Lawrence will be open for York Residents' Festival on Saturday 26th January from 10am-4pm and on Sunday 27th January from 2pm-5pm. There will be guided tours at 11am and 2:30pm on Saturday and at 2:30pm on Sunday, and refreshments will be available throughout. If you haven't looked around St Lawrence before, or might like to show a friend around, why not come along? We look forward to more people discovering St Lawrence!

Join us at 6pm on February 3rd for a special service of Choral Evensong followed by refreshments for the Presentation of Christ in the Temple, also known as the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commonly called Candlemas. With beautiful music by Tallis, Ayleward and Roth, come to rejoice in the manifestation of the light to lighten all peoples - Jesus Christ.

Epiphanytide Carols

We hope that you have enjoyed and been uplifted by services at St Lawrence over Christmas. As we turn to the season of Epiphany - the realisation and celebration of Jesus Christ's appearance in the world - why not join us for our service of Epiphanytide Carols, with music led by our student choir, the Caelestis Consort? We look forward to seeing you on Sunday 13th at 6pm! Do invite friends - you can send them a link to the Facebook event page here:

Remembrance Sunday

With thanks to David Harrison for offering the photograph to us - please do not reuse without his permission
This was a particularly poignant Remembrance Sunday, falling exactly 100 years from the end of the First World War. We were honoured to welcome the York Normandy Veterans who fought on the beaches of the Second World War to St Lawrence. Thank you to the St Lawrence's School children who helped us make the 156 First World War lanterns out of the 215 lanterns we placed in the churchyard to commemorate each man commemorated on St Lawrence's two war memorials (and a further man from the parish who died in the Falklands War). You can see a recording of the lantern display and the half muffled bells prior to Choral Evensong here.

All Souls

If you have lost a loved one, you are welcome to remember them at our All Souls service on Friday 2nd November at 7:30pm.

There will be a sung Solemn Requiem Mass with reading of names of loved ones who have died and lighting of candles.

If you would like someone's name to be read at the service please do let us know.
