Ascension Day & Whitsunday

There are two major events coming up at St Lawrence:

On Wednesday 9th May, the Colorado State University Pueblo Concert Choir will be joining us to sing for a Vigil Eucharist for the Eve of the Feast of Ascension (6:30pm) followed by a concert at 8pm.

On Sunday 20th May, Choral Evensong for Whitsunday, featuring Andrew Carter's unpublished Californian canticles, followed by a reception generously funded by Rupert Sheldrake.

We hope that you will be able to join us.

Lent and Easter

Lent, the season of penitence and reflection when we are all encouraged to prepare for Easter, begins on 14th February (marked at St Lawrence with a Sung Eucharist for Ash Wednesday). During Lent, why not join in with the daily Morning Prayer & Eucharist (at 8:15am in the Lady Chapel, weekdays except Thursdays), the Tuesday noon Eucharist and Bible Study (in church, bible study focussing on the Lord's Prayer), the three-week Tuesday evening 'Exploring Christianity' course (details on the poster below, in the Church Hall), or the Thursday evening ecumenical bible study based at the Carmelite Convent at 110 Lawrence Street (15th February to 22nd March, 7pm). All are welcome to attend any of these services or times of study, discussion, and reflection.

During Lent, we cover all crosses and images in the church and music will reflect the season at both Sung Eucharists and at Choral Evensongs. On Passion Sunday (18th March) the student choir will be singing for a special final service of term - music and readings for Passiontide.

During Holy Week, there will be noon Prayer Book services of Holy Communion Monday 26th March, Tuesday 27th March, and Wednesday 28th March; there will be a Sung Eucharist (with the stripping of the altars) on Maundy Thursday evening at 7:30pm (29th March); and the Liturgy of Good Friday (with communion from the reserved sacrament) will be offered on Good Friday at 2pm. Finally, we look forward to celebrating the joy of the resurrection of Christ on Easter Day - Sunday 1st April.

Choral Evensong in January

As we welcome back students from their Christmas break, our Choral Evensong series will be restarting again this Sunday. The musical programme for January is given below and a fuller list for the term will soon be published. We look forward to seeing you one evening at 6pm soon. Anybody interested in joining the Caelestis Consort at St Lawrence should contact the choral director on joelstarkie@gmail.com

Advent Sunday Gift Day

Advent will soon be upon us, and to mark the first Sunday of Advent we are holding a 'Gift Day', inviting people to respond to God's gifts to us with a special one-off gift to the church to support its increasing work. The day will finish with drinks and cake served to thank, in particular, the contribution of our student singers over the past term. We look forward to seeing you.
