Join us for Advent - the season of preparation - and for Christmas. From our Advent Procession on Sunday 2nd December, through the YMS Christmas Concert on Saturday 8th December and the church Nine Lessons and Carols service on Sunday 16th December, to our services at 3pm and 11:30pm on Christmas Eve and 10:15pm on Christmas Day, we look forward to welcoming you to celebrate the coming of Christ into the world's darkness. You can read more about our Christmas services and events here.
This was a particularly poignant Remembrance Sunday, falling exactly 100 years from the end of the First World War. We were honoured to welcome the York Normandy Veterans who fought on the beaches of the Second World War to St Lawrence. Thank you to the St Lawrence's School children who helped us make the 156 First World War lanterns out of the 215 lanterns we placed in the churchyard to commemorate each man commemorated on St Lawrence's two war memorials (and a further man from the parish who died in the Falklands War). You can see a recording of the lantern display and the half muffled bells prior to Choral Evensong here.
Why not come and have a cup of tea, some cake and a chat before Evensong at St Lawrence? Tea Before Evensong runs at 5pm each week during University term time in the Church Hall. All welcome, no charge. We look forward to seeing you there!
St Lawrence's 2018 Harvest Evensong and Supper are on Thursday 4th October from 7pm. A parish tradition for generations, make sure you don't miss out - Evensong is free to attend and no tickets are needed, but tickets for the supper are £5. Speak to Mrs Dickson or a churchwarden or call 01904 412140 to reserve yours.
With a Festal Eucharist and celebration on Friday 10th August and an outdoor service followed by picnic on Sunday 12th, make sure you don't miss this year's St Lawrence's Day festivities. If you've not been before, why not come and see what's going on?
You can now see the Friends of St Lawrence's 2018-19 year programme here. There is a lot to look forward to in the Friends 60th anniversary year - have a look at the list of talks and remember to take note in your diaries!
