Last Thursday (30th April), 250 people crowded into St Lawrence for the Licensing and Installation of our new priest-in-charge, the Rev. Jane Nattrass. It was lovely to welcome so many people - especially the group of schoolchildren from St Lawrence's Primary School, who sang a song of welcome, and all the children from St Lawrence's and Fishergate Schools who shook tambourines and rattles with the Archbishop of York through Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory!
The Archbishop and many others enjoying fellowship and hospitality in the Church Community Hall after the serviceMany of those at the service walked down the drive to the cheerful sound of the church bells for a welcoming celebration in the Hall, with refreshments provided by the hard work of parishioners. We were delighted that some elderly members of our community who have struggled to make it to church recently were able to come. We were also glad to welcome many students, and a large number of ecumenical guests. We hope all who came enjoyed the evening, and we are looking forward positively to the coming years with Jane.

A belated Happy Easter from St Lawrence - alleluia! We had a very busy Easter week, with a very memorable and solemn service on the evening of Maundy Thursday, a well-attended observance of Good Friday, and many attending services across a joyful and busy Easter Day. We are now busy preparing for the visit of His Grace the Archbishop of York for the Licensing & Installation of our new Priest-in-Charge (which you can read about in the York Press here). The choir, the organist, and local schoolchildren are busy practicing music, we are doing our best to ensure parishioners and the wider church community know about the new appointment and are invited, and arrangements are being made for the celebratory buffet. It is a good time to be at St Lawrence.
On Palm Sunday, the churchwardens announced that the Reverend Elizabeth Jane Nattrass MA is to be appointed, as "Priest-in-Charge", to the Benefice of St Lawrence with St Nicholas and New Fulford. The Reverend Nattrass is already well-known in York, having charge of our neighours in the parishes of St Denys and All Saints, Pavement, as well as of the churches of St Helen with St Martin, St Olave, and the Priory Church of the Holy Trinity, Micklegate. The Reverend Nattrass will be licensed by His Grace the Lord Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, and installed by the Archdeacon of York, the Venerable Sarah Bullock, being presented by our Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of York Minster. This will happen AT ST LAWRENCE at 7:30PM on THURSDAY 30TH APRIL. It will be followed by a buffet and other refreshments for all in the Church Community Hall. All are warmly invited to attend - we particularly hope that as many parishioners as possible are able to make it (you can see the Facebook event here - do click attending!) We are looking forward to a bright future together with our new priest and our new partners inside the city walls.
