NEW St Lawrence Evensong Singers

We are delighted to be able to introduce a new choir at St Lawrence. The new St Lawrence Singers are co-directed by Messrs Joel Starkie and Jonty Ward, and is looking for new choir members to sing Evensong for four weeks starting from the week of the 22nd of May.

Building on St Lawrence's long choral tradition and established pattern of Evensong worship, the aim is for a musically ambitious student-led choir to sing Evensong every week during academic term time, and these four Evensongs are a pilot for this.

The choir will welcome anyone (irrespective of age or experience) keen to sing in a choir concentrating on excellence in liturgical choral music by composers Howells, Stanford, Bairstow, Lotti and Byrd. The draft musical programme (except for the psalm chants and hymns) is given below.

Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 19:30-21:30 ; and for an hour before 18:00 evensong on Sunday. If you are interested, please email Joel at joelstarkie@gmail.com so he can provide more information and ask a few questions about previous experience.

The choir are especially keen to look for tenors, but depending on the interest will accept as many requests as possible that doesn't disrupt balance too much!
