The images below show the text of a sermon delivered by the late Reverend Canon Ernest Marsh, then Vicar of St Lawrence, on July 16th (6th Sunday after Trinity) 1944. There are more to follow, kindly made available by Canon Marsh's son. It is hoped to reproduce some or all in more readable transcript form, but Canon Marsh wrote very legibly and the following is worth a read! Canon Marsh - who led St Lawrence through the Second World War years - introduced, amongst other things, the 'English altar' still in constant use, and our English Hymnals. He was not one for altar bells but habitually wore a biretta. A little more biography will follow in future.
