Students
We warmly welcome students to become involved with parish life at St Lawrence. Students are of course welcome at any of our services, but especially student-friendly services are:
Evensong, 6.30pm Sundays. After Evensong, a trip to the Waggon & Horses right across the road usually follows! Sometimes we share a meal afterwards in the church hall.
Holy Hour 7pm Wednesdays: Holy hour is a discussion group which focusses on attitudes to the Eucharist. It is friendly and informal, with cups of tea or hot chocolate. It is followed by a formal act of worship, which could be a Eucharist, compline, Vespers, Benediction or exposition of the Blesséd Sacrament.
Students are welcome to join the serving team either at Evensong or the Parish Eucharist at 10.15am on Sundays, and to get involved with the choirs which sing at both of those services.
Students are encouraged to help out with the ministry to the elderly in our church hall. Helping serve hot lunches on a Wednesday, or serving (and eating) tea and cakes on a Monday afternoon with a spot of bingo!
Many students have gone on to discern vocations in the clergy, join the Parochial Church Council, lead choirs, and become churchwardens, making a really significant contribution to the church and the local community.
