Special Services and Events
Sunday 13th April – Palm Sunday – Blessing of Palms & Sung Mass
On Palm Sunday all our services are at our usual Sunday service times. The day begins with Morning Prayer at 8:30am. Sung Mass begins at 10:15am at the footprint of the Old Church of St Lawrence in the Churchyard. Here all the congregation shall receive palms, and they will be blessed by the Priest, after which the service shall continue as usual. In the evening at 6:30pm there is the Dramatic Reading of the Passion according to St. Mark.

Monday 14th March, Tuesday 15th March, Wednesday 16th March – Tenebrae – 8pm
The name ‘Tenebrae’ is the Latin word for darkness or shadows and has for centuries been used at the night office during Holy Week.
This service is marked by a reading from the Book of Lamentations and the gradual extinguishing of candles until a single candle, considered a symbol of the Lord, remains.
Towards the end of the service, this candle is extinguished, typifying the apparent victory of the forces of evil.
At the very end, a loud noise is made, symbolising the earthquake at the time of the Resurrection (Matthew 28:2), the fifteenth candle is restored and by its light all depart in silence.
The Service on Monday the 14th will feature the choir singing the Lamentations of Jeremiah, and Tuesday and Wednesday will be said services.
Thursday 17th April – Maundy Thursday – Sung Mass and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament – 7:30pm
Sung Mass will be followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at the Garden of Repose in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion. There will be a vigil of prayer until midnight in front of the Blessed Sacrament which all are welcome to enter and leave as they please until midnight.
Friday 18th April – Good Friday – Veneration of the Cross and Mass of the Pre-Sanctified – 2pm
12pm – Stations of the Cross. 1pm – Church open for silent prayer. 2pm – Veneration of the Cross & Mass of the Pre-Sanctified
Saturday 18th April – Holy Saturday – Easter Vigil – 8pm
Sunday 18th April – Easter Sunday
8:30am – Morning Prayer
10:15am – Sung Mass
6:30pm – Evensong & Benediction
